After the Tsunami, water level rises almost everyday in many villages in Campbell Bay.
The cause of the tsunami on December 26, 2004
It is said that on an average the Indo- Australian plate moves below the Eurasian plate at around 70mm per year. Often, however the plate gets locked and moves very little for many years and pressure builds up.
When the accumulated pressure is suddenly released, a major earthquake results. This is what happened on December 26, 2004 near Sumatra, which resulted in the massive tsunami waves hitting the shorelines and islands in south Asia.
